The beginning of Boxcar House

Our story at Boxcar House only started a year and half ago, but it has felt like it has always been here with me, even before the day we opened our doors. You all have welcomed us and now many of you are like family so we  wanted to share with you how this idea became a reality.

To be honest, a furniture store was never in my plans when we started our journey, but, before I start, let me take you to the beginning.......

I think many of you can agree when I say there are events in our lives that either keep us in concrete boots due to fear or those events help us push fear to the pit of our stomach and take the leap of faith. My story is one leap of faith after another!

There I was, in my hometown and now a single mom with two adorable children. Single Moms and Dads have hard choices when it all boils down to just us. My little voice inside said it was time to leave our small town and fearlessly move forward. We moved to Frisco, TX and into a house right next door to my dear friend Amber. It was then I knew we were taking steps in the right direction. It was the first step to a new beginning and endless possibilities!

Once we were settled it was “go time!” I kicked things into full gear (aka survival mode), I got my real estate license and lived and breathed real estate 24/7! I really felt like I had found my dream job. I partnered with another agent who became one of my best friends and we became two of the top producers in the area! I truly believe it was because we loved our jobs and loved helping people find their dream home; it was a perfect fit for me! After a few years, I realized that God had other plans for me.

In 2007, on a road trip to the Texas Hill Country, I fell in love with my now partner in crime and love of my life!  Zach and I tied the knot in 2010 and in 2012 we welcomed an additional love! This was a dream come true for our little family.
Once our precious Wyatt came into the world, we decided it was time for me to slow down so I became a domestic engineer.  I have to admit, this was not an easy transition.  I went from going 100 mph in business suits and heels to a zombie because of the lack of sleep! Not to mention, I now have a baby that has breathing issues and we are constantly monitoring him and stressing about it. Oh, and, the reflux! It took me about 6 weeks to start feeling like I was more that a giant burp cloth and professional diaper changer.  I began to settle into my new role quite nicely.  Wyatt and I went on all kinds of adventures! Thanks to his Daddy who worked so hard to allow us to do that!
As my older two babies flew the coop and started their own adventures, my baby, Wyatt, neared school age. It was then that I started to get that itch to find something or do something that allowed me to be creative, to be back in the community, and to contribute back to my family. It was engrained in me by now.

As I write the rest of this story it is one you ALL are part of and have helped write. As you can imagine, these next few paragraphs are ones that are very near and dear to my heart.

Have you ever gotten that “out of the blue” phone call that changed the course of life? Did you initially say, “yeah…no.” Good, me neither. Well, truthfully, that is exactly how the Boxcar story begins.

It was a call from a good friend of ours asking if I would be interested in opening a furniture store. As I mentioned, my answer was simply, “no.”

After a few unopened emails from our friend I finally sat down to respond to him this was just not a part of my creative plan. It was then when I opened the first email and saw THE most beautiful and creative designs of furniture I had ever seen and it came with history! I was IN LOVE! Instantly, I knew we could deliver a product that everyone would love. Agreed?!

When something is meant to be it happens fast! Boxcar House was born! In just a few short weeks following that email we opened our doors in July of 2016. Some of you probably remember, we had plenty of tables but that was pretty much it. Thankfully, you saw beyond our chaos and confusion and hung on. Thank you!
I think I have persevered through life all because my Dad taught me to follow my dreams and to know that I could accomplish anything with determination, hard work, and a kind heart. To me, we will always live and work by this motto every morning when we unlock our doors to welcome you. Your business and friendship means the world to us!  Could this be the one of the reasons that Southern Living Magazine has named us one of the "Best in the South" after only being open eighteen months?  I would like to think so.

Our story is only beginning and I am so happy to journey with you as we look forward into our future, travel our own rails, and add more stories and history to our Boxcar furniture!  We hope that when you visit our store, it will take you back to a wonderful time in your life.  A time when things were a little simpler, customer service and quality products were top priority, children didn't question authority and laundry detergent wasn't considered a food group.

We have so many exciting things coming and we will keep you posted as they develop!  Hope to see you soon!
